Full Version: Anyone with problems with USB drivers and KIS2010

Hi,

I downloaded KIS2010 and installed over the top of the existing 2009 version as per the instructions. The installation seemed to go without a hitch. However when I restarted the system my mouse and keyboard (USB) did not work. I then noticed that all of my other USB drives were also not working. I plugged in a ps2 keyboard and managed to get into Device Manager and saw that all of my Intel ICH9 USB Family controllers were down. The system message said that the device drivers could not be loaded. The file may be corrupted (Error code 39). Try as I might I couldn’t get the drivers re-installed and I ended up doing a system restore to a point before I upgraded to KIS2010. When I restarted everything was fine again.

Thinking it might just have been a coincidence I ran the upgrade again with the same result – no USBs. Again I did a system restore and now all OK again. I have had no problems whatsoever with 2009. I don’t see anyone else on the forums experiencing what I am so don’t know if the problem is related to KIS2010. Circumstantial evidence would suggest that it is as I have had no problems before the upgrade and now no problems after the system restore. Very strange indeed as I don’t see why the usbs specifically would be affected unless the upgrade tries to secure the PC from outside influences such as it does with the network.

Could anyone shed any light on this please?

I am running:
- Windows XP SP3 on Intel chipset and Asus Maximus Formula motherboard
- Intel Core 2 Quad processor
- 2gb Ram

Kasperskey Support suggested undating my usb drivers but I couldn't find any newer ones.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated otherwise I'll be staying on KIS2009.

Many thanks
Gerry

Sounds like a Windows Driver error. Why Kaspersky sets it off is beyond me, though Kaspersky does intercept the way USB's open on the system.

You say you checked for new updates, did you try 'removing' the old driver then reinstalling the newest. The only other thing i can find, is a reference to a Registry entry (this seems like a fix a lot of people, even microsoft suggest)

I uninstalled the ICH9 USBs in Device Manager and even deleted the driver files which are listed, rebooted and Windows finds new hardware. I let it automatically install the drivers but the USBs still don't work. The disc that I got with the motherboard says to use the Windows drivers. Just wierd because when I go back to KIS2009 it's all fine.

Thanks for your help anyway aKshun.

i also downloaded and installed the new version and was just about to do it again but thought i will just have a look at the forum just in case there's something their, well thank god i did $243 dollars it cost me to get all the usb drivers back on my computer after the key board and mouse went dead, have never had a problem with this computer in 4 years until i put the new version on like a good little test dummy for kaspersky , if its free you can bet there's a reason any the lads at PC GURU said they had never seen anything like it before and cant understand what caused it ,i know what caused it now, this faulty kaspersky version 2010 thats the problem. in the registry it corrupts a lot of programs some that that are linked to key board and mouse im not new to computers and have always worked through any problems but after a week i can tell you that its not an easy fix take it to a technician and as far kaspersky goes you owe me $243

Ouch - fortunately it didn't cost me that much. I used Windows System Restore feature to restore to a point before KIS2010. It was the first time I used it and fortunately it worked like a charm. Very strange this usb problem as not all KIS2010 users are affected by it.

What you need to understand is, software is software for everyone. You did not receive a different version of Kaspersky to everyone else who downloaded. This means your Computer system, especially your drivers had a conflict with the software.

The software didn't do this through failure or fault, its more likely something is not working correctly to begin with. The reason people get these errors when installing new software, is that the product interacts with a component on your system (that no other software is) and this component is not working correctly. As soon as the component is requested for use, the problems occur.

This is usually the case in blue screens.

Unless your download was corrupted, which can only be caused by your connection to the server waning during download, then the software is not faulty as everyone else, or a large majority are not getting your problem.

---

A 4 year old computer is rather old in terms of hardware. Did you make sure your USB drivers were up to date. You can find the newest drivers on your Motherboard's manufactures website. In any case im still researching into this issue you guys are getting, but everything is pointing to a registry fix from Microsoft to rootkits from Sony.

Math;
Other people - You = 1 Person

Until i see more people or more evidence that Kaspersky has caused this problem, I'm going with the fact your USB drivers were dodgy or your registry was.
1 to 2 people out of 5 thousend plus isn't a large enough number to prove anything.

---

Gezza i would make a backup/restore point and try the above microsoft fix and see if you can get 2010 working on your system. It's fantastic and you might as well get it working since you're entitled to it. Should it still fail, return to your restore point again biggrin.gif

Thanks Akshun. I'll check those links out and give them a go. As you say I am entitled to KIS2010 and I quite like Kasperskey. I used to use McAfee but found it very intrusive.

Exactly the same thing happened to me and I spent money to get a tech to fix it and he said my pc was had it, but I got it home and uninstalled KIS and did a restore and got all my usb drives back. Before I uninstalled KIS I couldn't even do a restore! If you notice on installation a message comes up "may affect connection during installation process" that's putting it mildly. IT WAS THE FAULT OF CORRUPT
KIS INSTALLATION WITHOUT DOUBT!

did a restore and got all my usb drives back

Thats what fixed it - most if not all programs and drivers have system restore points made during their installation.
How did Kaspersky block the system restore process; this boggles my mind.

I got the same issue going from 2009 to 2011.
Im very unhappy as was just about to replace the pc after usb card didnt work.
is there a fix?
can we roll back from 2011 to 2009?

Try these options

http://support.kasperskyamericas.com/knowl...e-article/99002

(Step 3, if you have the 2011 rescue CD you need to download and create the one from the link provided to get the usb option to appear in Terminal)
