from time to time avp,exe has very high cpu and my laptop locks and I cannot use it, I found a forum that says to run the GSI Parser,

Thank you for the well formatted and informational first post.

My assumption at this point, is that the RootKit scanner is not playing nice.
If you perform an upgrade to Kaspersky 2011 (that your active license will support) you can either control or disable said RootKit scan from the interface.

It may be resolved with the upgrade in general.
